Interesting choice to cover the window
I wonder why the window that was once above the awning was closed over. Perhaps a daring inmate once attempted an escape using the awning to break his fall. Also notice the "box" sticking out of the building which is actually a stairwell leading to the underground passages connecting the buildings. Besides being used to for utilities, the tunnels also provided a way to move between the buildings during inclement weather.
