You are being watched at all times

One Palisades Center security guard once told me that the mall "has more cameras than the Big Brother house." A bit of schmoozing with mall management revealed that they keep their video recordings for a year. Considering that there are so many cameras, they must have a substantial computer storage system to support that.

Of course, all that technology seems to be all for naught when you hear about crimes that occur at the mall - which occur frequently, much to the chagrin of the overpaid local police with an addiction to patting themselves on the back. Around Christmas of 2009, a convicted sex offender walked right into a movie theater bathroom and molested a young girl. Even though he was caught on tape walking in from many angles, the Clarkstown police weren't the ones that caught the guy. He was picked up a few weeks later in New Jersey when he attacked another girl and just happened to be linked to the case in Rockland.
