Graffiti on the stairway to heaven in the Ritz building
Apparently the stairway leading to this area, which was condemned for years, was labeled the "stairway to heaven" by employees that frequented the place. It was in a severe state of disrepair, not unlike the rest of the building, although it's unclear whether much of that damage was sustained before or after the fire that occurred to condemn it. In fact, much of it may have been sustained during firefighting efforts, e.g., insulation that had fallen from the ceiling en masse was likely brought down when fire hoses aimed at the ceiling soaked it and pulled it to the floor.
