Mystery chimney in the courtyard

A chimney rises from the middle of the courtyard between the Tudor and the Dorchester building (seen here). It was not immediately clear to me what this served. Note that the windows in these buildings were redone during the attempt at renovation, and the new window stickers are still visible in some places.
