Deteriorating ceiling in the Persian Room
Unfortunately, based on this shot, the Persian Room is not long for this world. The roof of the Persian Room is completely flat, so without gutter maintenance, water pooled on the roof and ultimately began leaking through. That leak became so severe that it subsequently waterlogged the ceiling tiles, causing them to soften, rot, and eventually fall to the ground. What's scary is that on this trip, we actually walked around in the plenum above the Persian Room. Although the beams look quite thick, the rot is advancing very quickly.
