Warning lamp panel missing a light

Warning lamp panel missing a light

Strangely someone has stolen a warning lamp unit from this operator's console in the power plant. Each lamp was wired to some monitoring and automation circuit that allowed plant operators to know when there was trouble. The "FD Fan" light is not an alarm but rather an indicator that the furnace draught fan is running. Usually hot air simply rises out of the smoke stack passively. This is induced draught. However to get things started, sometimes a FD fan is used. The furnace draught fan (or forced draught fan) forces air into the furnace by means of a fan and ductwork. Air is often passed through an air heater; which, as the name suggests, heats the air going into the furnace in order to increase the overall efficiency of the boiler. Dampers are used to control the quantity of air admitted to the furnace. Forced draught furnaces usually have a positive pressure.
