It's always a good time to stop and make sure there's no boogers hanging from your nose. The red tassles help distract foes.

Great photo reportage. Is this Borscht Belt area in some ways the Detroit of the tourism industry ?
-leoveryou, 2010-11-13 20:24:31

Leoveryou, in a way, I suppose there are some parallels: both Detroit and the Borscht Belt were once sprawling and thriving juggernauts in their industries. Whereas Detroit obviously was metropolitan, the Borscht Belt covered a much larger yet sparsely populated geographical area. They both were built to meet the needs of a time period that passed. Both places are now swaths of abandonment. Hopelessness is pervasive in both places. And not much is being done to change either place as far as I can tell, short of razing empty buildings. Although, one thing Detroit had that the Borscht Belt never did was Robocop.

I always thought New York and Michigan were opposite of each other (at least demographically speaking).

Awesome photos you have there -- I really enjoyed looking at them.
