Train conductor information panel
Taken at the 145th street station (obviously), this unusual operator's console is mounted opposite the platform (across the track). A small ladder leads up from the track to this box, mounted roughly at the train conductor's level. It is labeled "local" "express" and "spur". I cannot read the bottom one. I believe this is to tell the conductors what to expected ahead, but for all I know it signals to the central control where the operators want to go (e.g. if they need to pull into the maintenance spur).
